Privacy Policy

Last updated 1 November 2026

Pulsatio is a music app for the Mac from Type Twenty Three LLC (“we”, “us”). The app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Almost everything it knows about you stays on your Mac. This page lists every case where something leaves it, what is sent, and who receives it. It also covers this website, under Launch news.

1What stays on your Mac

Your library, playlists, listening history, settings, the folders you add and everything Pulsatio caches are stored on your Mac only. Pulsatio has no server that holds your library or your history. Deleting the app and its data removes them.

2Apple Music

When you connect Apple Music, Pulsatio uses Apple's MusicKit to read the catalog and your library and to play music. Apple handles that connection under Apple's privacy policy. Pulsatio never sees your Apple Account password.

3Subscription

Payments are handled by Apple. Pulsatio never sees your name, email address or payment details. To check a subscription, the app sends Apple's signed record of it to Pulsatio's server. The server keeps a count of Smart Playlist and AI feature uses against that record's transaction number, so it can apply the trial and daily limits. That count, and the reference numbers of its most recent requests so none is charged twice, is all it keeps.

4AI features

Pulse Search, Pulsatio Play (Smart Playlists), Mood Mix, album cover search and a few written notes in the app are answered by two AI services: Anthropic (its Claude models) and TypeSafe. Nothing is sent to either until you allow it. Pulsatio asks the first time an AI feature would send something. If you choose Not Now, those features stay off. You can turn them on or off at any time in Settings › General › AI Features.

Once you allow it, Pulsatio sends only what the feature you are using needs:

  • Pulse Search sends what you typed to Anthropic. Claude may search the web for it. If you ask about your own library, it also sends song titles, artists, albums, genres, years, play counts and the dates songs were added and last played.
  • Smart Playlists and Mood Mix send TypeSafe what the request needs to be understood and ranked: what you typed, the playlist's title and songs, up to your 25 most recent plays and your top artists, your Apple Music country, and the titles and descriptions of the Apple Music playlists it is choosing from. A new Smart Playlist's title and description are written by Anthropic from your request and the first 40 songs' titles and artists.
  • Album cover search sends the picture you paste to Anthropic, to name the album, and to TypeSafe, to compare it with covers in Apple Music.
  • Notes on artist, album and classical work pages send Anthropic only public names and catalog facts, nothing about you.

All of this goes through Pulsatio's server, which passes it on and stores none of it. Pulsatio adds nothing that identifies you, such as your name or email address. Anything you type or paste yourself is sent as it is. Each uses what it receives only to answer the request, under terms that protect it at least as well as this policy.

5Location

The Pulsatio app does not ask for or use your location. The launch news sign-up on this website keeps a rough location, as described under Launch news.

6Artist and album information

To show biographies, credits, photos and covers, Pulsatio looks up artist, album and song names and their public catalog numbers with MusicBrainz, ListenBrainz, Wikidata, Wikipedia, the Cover Art Archive, Open Opus and Apple's iTunes Search. Artist photos and album disc art come from fanart.tv through Pulsatio's server, or directly if you add your own fanart.tv key. The app also reads the public news feeds of music publications for artist news. These lookups include no name, account or other details about you, though each service can see the IP address a request comes from.

7Shazam

When you ask Pulsatio to identify a song, it listens through your microphone only for as long as it is listening. Apple's ShazamKit turns what it hears into an audio signature on your Mac and sends only that signature to Apple to find a match. Pulsatio does not record or keep the sound, and it is never sent to us.

8Music videos

Music videos play through Apple's MusicKit, under Apple's privacy policy. Pulsatio does not listen to, record or analyze their sound.

9Your own servers and accounts

If you add a Plex or Jellyfin server, Pulsatio talks only to the servers you add, and tells them what you play so your plays are counted. Signing in to Plex goes through plex.tv. If you import a YouTube playlist with your own key, the request goes to YouTube API Services under Google's privacy policy.

10Report a Problem

If you send a report from Help › Report a Problem, Pulsatio sends what you typed, the reply address if you give one, the app and macOS versions, your Mac model, your Apple Music country and language and, if you leave the box ticked, the latest crash or hang log. It is emailed to the developer, and kept in that mailbox, so the problem can be fixed and you can be answered. Nothing is sent unless you press Send. To have a report deleted, write to the address below.

11Launch news

If you leave your email address on this website, we keep it with the date, which form you used and the city, region and country your connection appears to come from, so we can tell you when Pulsatio launches and see roughly where interest is coming from. We do not keep your IP address or ask for your precise location, and we use this information for nothing else. Cloudflare, which runs this website, stores the list and, under its own privacy policy, sees the IP address of every visit in order to serve the page and limit misuse of the sign-up form. We delete the list once launch news has gone out. To be removed sooner, write to the address below.

12What Pulsatio does not do

We do not sell your data. Pulsatio sends information only to the services named on this page, and only as needed for the features you use. It does not show ads, track you across apps or websites, or build a profile of you.

13Cookies

Neither the app nor this website uses cookies or similar tracking technologies.

14Security

Everything Pulsatio sends to our server and to outside services travels over encrypted connections. A Plex or Jellyfin server on your own network may use a plain local connection. We keep only what this page describes: the subscription records, the launch news list, and the problem reports and messages you send us. No method of sending or storing data is completely secure, but we keep what we hold to that minimum.

15Children

Pulsatio is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, for example in a problem report, write to us and we will delete it.

16Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
